Inhabitation in Montreal, Vancouver and a new creation!

Thank you to everyone who came out to see Inhabitation, co-presented by Tangente and the MAI as part of Festival Accès Asie.

In other news, I am very excited to be able to present two works in Vancouver this summer.  Inhabitation is invited to the 25th anniversary of the Dancing on the Edge Festival in July, and I am premiering my newest work, entitled POND, at the Powell Street Festival in August!

Jinen butoh in Paris

Just back from Paris after taking Atsushi Takenouchi's 10 day intensive Butoh workshop... I am still speechless coming out from this profound and intense experience. Also it was a great pleasure to meet a wonderful group of people from all over France and abroad, who sincerely dedicated their time to this workshop from beginning to end and went through this indescribable journey together. Un très gros merci à LOJIQ pour leur appuie et encouragement !!!

Threshold in Querétaro, Mexico!

Just came back from Mexico last night. I had a great experience performing Threshold (35-min version) at the Festival Siguientescena in Querétaro. Also, I had the chance to spend some short but amazing time in Mexico City afterwards! I am grateful for all the warm hospitality. Thank you so much for everyone who made it possible!!!

Short&Sweet 8 @ Festival TransAmériques

Participating in this exciting event for the first time, I presented a new piece titled Satowa. This edition of Short & Sweet had a theme of "strange pairings", so for the very first time I decided to work with a music composition written by my mother. It might not be so strange to audience members but it was a stimulating challenge for me, especially working with traditional music. In the end, I believe the collaboration brought an interesting result and I feel that it opened a new door for me. I would like to thank everyone who came out to the show, and Andrew and Sasha for inviting me to participate!

Threshold at Vue sur la relève 2012

This Monday evening at Vue sur la relève COUPS DE POUCE 2012, I received two awards, from La danse sur les routes du Québec and Circuit-Est Centre Chorégraphique!!!

Inhabitation at CanAsian 2012!

Thank you to everyone who came out to the CanAsian Dance Festival in Toronto! There were some reunions as well as some new encounters, all of them warm, wonderful and exciting. I am so grateful to have been able to create new work and perform it at this festival, and also for the opportunity to work with inspired and inspiring people!!

It was a journey full of joy, stimulation, love, and many discoveries!
Thanks to my family and friends who took time from their busy schedules to see me while I was in Japan :-)

中学時代毎日一緒に過ごした懐かしの人に、
仕事仲間というには濃すぎる時を過ごした人に、
会えるのをずっと楽しみにしていた人に、会えました。
これから育ててゆきたい大切な出会いもありました。
割と平気なつもりで、実は自分の中で交錯する東京、モントリオール、これからへの想いをなんとか明るみに出そうともがく自分にも会いました。

喜びと刺激と発見と愛のつまった帰国でした。

Rheō tour 2011

It was a great pleasure to work on this show again with Patrick, Ben, Kaoru, Dino, and David-Alexandre.
The photos below were taken on the last day of the tour, at the Dunrobin Sonic Gym. Johannes, the owner of the place, had an amazing collection of gongs, and it was a special venue for the final performance of this tour.  Thank you so much to everyone who came out to the show!! I hope we will have more opportunities to do this show again in the future :-)

A word about recent events

In light of recent events in Japan, it is impossible not to wonder about creating art when so many people have lost loved ones, and while so many people are still trying to survive the days since the disaster without food, water, or shelter... Our hearts and prayers go out to all those who are courageously coming together to help each other in these difficult times. On behalf of everyone involved in the show tonight, please send positive energy with me in the hopes that all those who need help will receive it soon, and that those who are missing will be found safe.

Manège de l'utérus hanté is back!

One night only, a special edition of "Manège de l'utérus hanté" is back tomorrow (Thursday February 24th, 22h at Casa del popolo) night! A dance work integrating live music and theatrical aspects, performed by Maya Kuroki and Tomomi Morimoto.

"Threshold" residency at the MAI

I have just finished a two week residency for my new dance creation, Threshold, which I have been working on for most of this year.

I am very excited about this 50 minutes piece, which will have its premiere in March 2011 at the MAI. 

I thank the MAI so much for all the generous support they have provided for this project.
